Collecting Food Memories: October Events

Over the last 3 months the We Are Ageing Better Team have been hard at work talking to older residents in St Pancras and Somers Town about their memories of the area, in particularly their food memories!  Some of the memories we have gathered include:

  • Eating Crepes from the New Horizon Crepe Stand in Charlton Street Market
  • Pork pies in Basil Jellicoe Hall. Veggie breakfast for £6.50 at the Somers Town Coffee House
  • Neck of lamb stew, roast breast of lamb, bacon & onion suet roll.
  • Pinner Fish and Chip Fridays

Everyone has memories of food they have eaten at a restaurant or with friends at home. To date we have knocked on the doors of 195 people living in Somers Town and St Pancras and have spoked to over 70 residents about the project. Talking about food is great fun and is the inspiration for our first two We Are Ageing Better Events that are taking place this autumn.

These free events will be a great chance to meet neighbours, find out more about the project and of course eat yummy food! Anyone over 60 who lives in Somers Town and St Pancras is welcome to join us.

The two events take place on:

Wednesday 5th October between 10am – 12noon , St Pancras Community Centre, 67 Plender Street, NW1 0LG

Thursday 13th October between 12noon – 3pm, Basil Jellicoe Hall, Drummond Crescent, NW1 1BS

I am the project co-ordinator for Ageing Better, a local resident lead project for Somers Town and St Pancras. The project has been created to reduce isolation and loneliness for residents over 60, though positive and engaging activities designed by local people.
